Playing To Your Audience

Recently, Erica Scott blogged about the changing face of blogging. You can find her post here. This got us thinking and so we felt we would discuss our blog and why we do what we do (blogging-wise) here.

When Lizzie and I made the decision that she would move in with me and we would share our lives together and live our lifestyle as best we can 24/7 we thought it would be interesting to share our journey in a unique format to blogging--side-by-side columns with a "his" and "hers" approach to everything from our experiences and observations in the scene to fiction and other fun features.

We knew from the beginning we wanted to include photos. On my blog Dark Musing I often use found photos, art and occasional photos I take myself. Lizzie really wanted all the photos to be of her (or us). At the time, it was just to make the blog personal. But then something happened.

We noticed, like Erica did, that the more pics we posted the better our traffic. Admittedly, we aren't doing this for anyone else but us, but when our traffic spikes it's exciting, you know? So, at first subconsciously and then later consciously, we began to make sure our posts had photos in order to improve our traffic. Why? Because people really don't want to read, they want to wank. And as far as we're concerned, there's nothing wrong with that, either.

But it does get frustrating. We care about our blog. We think hard in our little "editorial meetings" about what to post and when. And we don't get a lot of feedback for our writing. We used to get a few comments, but those have tapered off. It'd be nice to know that people still read our blog, otherwise it'd be a hell of a lot easier to just post pics of Lizzie's lovely ass.
Craig and I explored co-writing before we started this blog together. After exchanging countless stories, as we’ve talked about here, we decided to post alternating chapters of a story on our individual blogs. You can find links to all those chapters here.

But when I moved out to California, we wanted to try something more than a joint story. I have always enjoyed reading Craig’s perspective of a scene, especially after I’ve written about my own experience.* We thought we might share that experience with our readers, presenting two side-by-side columns with our individual perspectives.

We soon discovered that there was no template for the two-column blog we envisioned. I create each post as an HTML table, with an intricate CSS keeping the look consistent. The next challenge was centering a picture between the columns. I’m sure there’s an easier way to do this, but I currently use a spreadsheet to determine the appropriate size and margins to float a picture between the words.

We’ve used the pictures to create visual interest in our posts. Sometimes, the pictures help balance our text. On occasion, we’ve each written our side looking only at the pictures, not seeing each other’s text before it was posted.

But I wanted the pictures to be something more than a visual relief. I wanted each picture to be personal - a picture of me, or us, or something we used in a scene. I’m an exhibitionist, after all. But this isn’t Tumblr, we try to make our blog more than just a series of pictures. I like to think that’s still working.

*If you’ve nothing better to do with your weekend, I’m sure you could find countless examples of Craig and I writing about the same scenes on our individual blogs - Craig's and mine, but I am not going down that rabbithole today.

Living the Lifestyle

If you're a regular reader you know we have been house hunting in order to find a place we can call our own closer to Craig's work, but also will be a place in which we we will be on our own for the first time--empty nesters. While Craig wrote about these changes, Lizzie wrote a short fantasy story (one that might someday be a reality).
A Reality A Fantasy
We were thrilled to learn a week ago Thursday that we had closed escrow on our home and took possession of the keys. The same day we began some renovations to the structure, but most of the changes are going to be to our lives once we move.

First, my work commute will go down from 15 hours a week to about 3 1/2. Second, as most of you have read previously, my daughter and granddaughter will move out and my son will head off to college in August, leaving Lizzie and I truly alone for the first time since she moved to Los Angeles over a year and a half ago.

What that means to us then will be truly exciting. Spankings and play whenever we prefer, not whenever we can grab a moment alone or time for one of our "silent scenes." It means Lizzie can go back to her favorite habit (and mine!) of being naked around the house.

Of course, most importantly, we will be able to live our lifestyle 24/7. Lizzie wants the structure, wants to dynamic of her service to me, wants the protocol and, needless to say, wants the play, pain and punishment that goes along with all of that.

We've talked a lot since starting our blog about all the changes ahead for us, but now we are mere weeks away--well, maybe a month and a half (that's still weeks, right?). It's exciting to imagine all we've hoped and dreamed about finally coming to fruition as we have planned.
He stepped out of the shower to find her kneeling in front of him. She had gone to make coffee after her own shower, not bothering to get dressed. She knelt before him now, a cup of steaming coffee in her hand. He knew the coffee had been prepared with a packet of raw sugar, just as he preferred.

She moved just slightly, taking a breath that lifted her breasts for his enjoyment. After he had toweled off and discarded his towel, she kissed the brim of the cup and lifted it toward him.

“Your coffee, sir.”

He smiled as he took the hot cup from her hands. After taking a sip, his free hand stroked her cheek. “Good girl,” he murmured.

His eyes shifted from her to the vanity, where three freshly cleaned switches waited. He took one in his free hand, inspecting her work. He came back to her kneeling form to tap the switch against the closer breast.

“Maybe I’ll use them here.” He made the threat quietly.

She watched him, no doubt wondering what his plan was with the switches he had collected on their morning walk.

“No,” he said, setting down his half-full coffee cup. He took her ear and pulled her to her feet, heading for the bedroom, “I think an ordinary switching will do this morning.”

So Many Spankings

This last weekend we had the rarest of opportunities: two nights of play. Friday night, we had a narrow window of opportunity to get in a brief scene, so there we were doing OTK. I was in a silly mood. I thought, if I was going to role play and say the opposite from the usual scene, what would that be like?

"I am so sick of you being such a good girl!" I mock-scolded. "Every single day it's always, 'I'm going to help Craig' and 'I'm going to take care of things'! Sheesh!" And I spanked and spanked while Lizzie laughed and laughed. It was a good, thorough spanking to be sure, but I don't think we had laughed so hard since our candy scene [video here].
The weekend started off with a brief window for us to play. Craig pulled me over his knee for a quick hand-spanking.

I’d barely settled into place when Craig said, “Why do you have to be such a good girl?”

I turned to look at him as much as possible, bewildered, as he continued, “If you weren’t such a good girl, I wouldn’t have to spank you all the time.”

All I could do was giggle. I don’t know how Craig managed such a hard spanking while laughing, but he did. We had a great time.
Saturday night, we had the house to ourselves for a lot longer. I chose to surprise Lizzie with a Hundreds Scene--a scene we do where everything is done 100 times. I began hand spanking OTK in one of my styles...100 times. Then switched to another style...100 times. Then a third. Then I switched to a leather paddle. 100 more.

A few hundred more hand spankings and I had Lizzie get up and put her hands on the back of an armchair, then laid into her with another seven or eight implements. Lizzie sank deeper and deeper into subspace, but then began to lose tolerance as each of the last few implements as the count neared 100.

In the end, 1400 strokes/hits of each implement, Lizzie's bottom bruised and marked. I held her for a while and then the two of us realized we were famished and headed downstairs to make dinner.
When we had a little more time the next night, Craig got out a number of implements. (He didn’t actually get out the belt shown above; he was wearing it. Sneaky!) Because I knew we had more time available, I was surprised he hadn’t selected more implements.

After a warm-up spanking, Craig informed me we were doing a Hundreds Scene. I should have known that the limited number of implements meant he would use them more times!

It was a long scene and a hard one. I have a strong love/hate relationship with Hundreds Scenes. They are physically intense scenes. The predictability of one hundred swats is both annoying (“how many more of this awful thing?) and comforting (“only ten more and he will stop”). By the time Craig removed his belt to use it, I was flying. After 1,400 strokes, I was one very happy girl.
